Con Azúcar Café, a beloved café known for its oversized conchas and hearty coffee, has officially opened its doors in downtown Sacramento. The café, which first made its mark in San Jose, now occupies a spot in the Downtown Commons shopping center at 7th and K Streets.
Owner Alan Jimenez confirmed that the café kicked off its soft opening on Monday, January 27. Despite not promoting the event on social media, Jimenez said the turnout has exceeded expectations.
“We’re really surprised by the response,” Jimenez shared. “People from local businesses, corporate professionals, and state workers have been coming in, and it’s been a blessing to see the community come together like this.”
The café will remain open in the lead-up to its grand opening on Saturday, February 8. The event will start at 7 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m., and will run until 10 p.m.
“We’re planning to have mariachi, a DJ, a photo booth—pretty much all day,” Jimenez said. “We’re excited to start this new year and new venture off the right way.”
Jimenez expressed gratitude for the warm reception, with many customers sharing their appreciation for a local, authentic alternative to larger corporate chains.
“One of the things people often tell me is how excited they are to have something local and authentic to replace big names like Starbucks,” Jimenez said. “It’s great to hear that feedback—it really motivates us.”
