Stella Nova, a popular Oklahoma coffee shop chain, has announced that it will donate all four of its locations to Not Your Average Joe, a local nonprofit coffee shop that provides jobs to people with disabilities.
The newly acquired locations, which include stores in Norman, downtown Oklahoma City, Crown Heights, and Edmond, will continue to serve the same coffee and uphold the same mission as Not Your Average Joe. Current Stella Nova employees will retain their jobs and will be trained to work alongside adults with special needs.
With the addition of these four locations, Not Your Average Joe will expand to a total of 12 sites, including its five existing stores in Midtown, downtown Oklahoma City, Norman, Choctaw, and Broken Arrow. The nonprofit also owns ABE’s, a coffee roastery, and a catering kitchen.
“This generous gift from Stella Nova allows us to blend the best of both worlds,” said Tim Herbal, founder and executive director of Not Your Average Joe. “It will help us continue to spread caffeine and hope across Oklahoma and beyond.”
Kelli Lay, CEO and co-founder of Stella Nova, explained in an email that the chain initially met with Not Your Average Joe to discuss selling its products in Stella Nova stores. However, after learning more about the nonprofit’s mission, plans changed, leading to the donation of the locations.
