After a year of major changes, Ascend Coffee Roasters is growing again. The popular café has opened a second location in Vista, following its move from San Marcos Restaurant Row to La Costa.
The new shop officially opened Monday inside The Commons, a former Walgreens store that has been turned into a community and event space. Located on South Santa Fe Avenue, the building now serves as a multi-use venue owned by New Community Church.
Ascend Coffee will operate at The Commons six days a week, closing on Sundays when the church uses the space for services.
The location offers 10,000 square feet of indoor space and features a back patio. It sits about half a mile from downtown Vista and is designed to serve as a local gathering spot for events and social activities.
Owner Erin Harper said her goal is to recreate the welcoming, community-focused atmosphere of the original café. At the old San Marcos location, visitors could enjoy live music, knitting meetups, and cyclist gatherings.
“This was really an upcycle, bringing the building back to life,” Harper said. “I can’t wait to use it the way we used to in San Marcos.”
