Coffee Lab, located at Ballito’s Lifestyle Centre, has brewed its way to victory by winning the title of the best coffee shop in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The coffee shop claimed top honours in the prestigious Battle of the Beans competition, sponsored by Selati sugar producers and organized by Coffee Colab, a non-profit dedicated to promoting café culture.
A panel of 30 undercover judges visited more than 250 coffee shops across KZN, assessing them on factors such as flavor, appearance, presentation, barista skills, and overall ambiance. The competition excluded mainstream restaurants and franchises.
Sbusiso Nkolothi, the 37-year-old owner and founder of Coffee Lab, shared his winning formula. Coffee Colab Co-founder Ingrid Shevlin attributed Coffee Lab’s success to its consistently rich and flavorful coffee.
“They consistently served beautifully flavored coffee at the perfect temperature in the right-sized cups, with flawless crema for espresso and perfectly microtextured foam for cappuccinos. Additionally, their coffee shop offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, paired with excellent, friendly service,” said Shevlin.
