As we approach 2025, the coffee industry is poised to enter what experts are calling the “fourth wave” of coffee culture. This new era is marked by a focus on innovation, sustainability, and greater accessibility. Coffee consumption is no longer just about brewing at home or grabbing a cup from your local café. Technological advancements and shifting consumer preferences are reshaping how we enjoy our daily brew.
Cary Wong, the director of coffee at Partners Coffee, highlights the role of technology in this transformation. “We’re definitely going to see more tech making its way into coffee,” Wong says. He points to the growing popularity of smart espresso machines, such as the Breville Oracle Jet, and apps that offer recipe suggestions for home brewers. Wong also predicts that AI will help streamline café operations, setting the stage for a future where technology enhances both coffee preparation and service.
