Moca House Cafe in El Paso to Raise Prices Amid Tariff Increases

by Jessica

Consumers can expect higher prices for their next cup of coffee as a result of recent tariff hikes. The U.S. has imposed a 10% tariff on imports from nearly every foreign trading partner, causing prices to increase across various industries – including coffee.

Moca House Cafe, a small business in West El Paso, is among many others that will raise their prices to adjust for the increased cost of imports.

“We order coffee every two weeks, and our most recent order went up by about 20%,” said owner Ahmed Abdaljalil.

Abdaljalil opened his business in 2023, initially selling tea products at local farmers markets. By September 2024, he expanded into a brick-and-mortar café, located at the corner of Sunland Park Drive and North Mesa. The café specializes in lattes and teas, many of which use imported ingredients.

“Our coffee comes from Latin America, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. Our famous tea comes straight from Yemen, and our cardamom and spices come from Guatemala. Almost everything we use is imported,” Abdaljalil explained.
