A new coffee shop inspired by the slow, social coffee culture of Montenegro has opened its doors in Williamsburg.
Montemug, located at 387 Manhattan Avenue, launched earlier this month and is owned by neighborhood residents Sladjana and Ivan. The pair are already familiar faces in the community through their barbershop, Monteman Barber, which they’ve operated for the past four years at 422 Graham Avenue.
With Montemug, the duo hopes to bring a different kind of coffee experience to the area—one rooted in warmth, hospitality, and connection.
“Growing up, we were surrounded by a deep sense of hospitality, where coffee isn’t rushed, and every cup is a chance to connect,” Sladjana and Ivan told Greenpointers. “We wanted to bring a dash of coffee culture from back home, where people truly enjoy their time spent sipping coffee.”
Montemug was carefully designed to reflect that vision. With soft tones, inviting decor, and a relaxed atmosphere, the space encourages guests to linger—offering a calm break from the city’s usual pace.
According to the owners, what sets Montemug apart in North Brooklyn’s crowded coffee scene is its “inviting vibe” and “attention to detail.”
Whether it’s for a quiet solo visit or a long conversation with a friend, Montemug aims to create a space where coffee isn’t just consumed—it’s experienced.
