In a significant effort to enhance the quality and market appeal of Kenyan coffee, farmers from Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Nandi counties have been encouraged to adopt organic farming methods.
The appeal came during a sensitization forum held on Friday at the Eldoret Sports Club, convening key coffee sector stakeholders from across the North Rift region. The event was organized by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development and chaired by Cabinet Secretary Wickliffe Oparanya.
CS Oparanya underscored the government’s dedication to transforming Kenya’s coffee industry by promoting sustainable agricultural practices that meet international standards.
“We are working to reposition Kenyan coffee in the global market. Organic farming is no longer an option but a necessity if we are to meet the increasing demand for high-quality, residue-free coffee,” said CS Oparanya.
He highlighted that growing global consumer preference for organic coffee—driven by health and environmental concerns—presents an opportunity for Kenyan farmers to access premium markets and increase their earnings over time.
