Sue and Al Pera, the beloved owners of Cornerstone Coffeehouse in Camp Hill, have announced their retirement. The couple will step down at the end of the month, handing over the iconic coffee shop at 2133 Market Street to a new, as-yet unnamed owner.
“It’s bittersweet and emotional, but overall, it’s the right time,” Sue Pera shared. “It’s not just a business; it’s my friends, my family, and the staff who’ve been with us for so long.”
Sue Pera took over Cornerstone Coffeehouse in 1999, after previously owning Breads n’ Cheese in Derry Township. Cornerstone was one of the region’s first coffeehouses, opening well before the arrival of national chains like Starbucks.
The decision to retire has been more than a year in the making, prompted by the emergence of a buyer who the Peras believe is the right fit for the business. While the new owner’s identity remains private for now, Sue expressed her satisfaction with the transition, saying, “I couldn’t be happier. Absolutely, we found the right person.”
She added, “It’s ready for another generation to take over. It’s time.”
Sue confirmed that the staff at Cornerstone will remain the same, ensuring continuity for loyal customers. The Peras plan to enjoy more rest and travel in their retirement.
