As it celebrates its 10th anniversary, The Barista League is refining its international focus for the upcoming 2025 season with a reduced slate of six events across six different global regions.
The competition series, produced by the specialty-coffee-focused Ordna Event Agency, will kick off in Prague on March 29th before traveling to Guadalajara in May, Tokyo in June, Montreal in September, Johannesburg in October, and Sydney in November.
To enhance spectator engagement and coffee innovation, The Barista League is introducing several changes, including the addition of a filter coffee element and modifications to the judging and timing structure.
Each continent will be represented by 10 teams, with free applications available for interested barista teams. Teams wishing to participate in the competition will be required to submit written and video materials for review by The Barista League selection committee.
“When we first started, The Barista League was truly a local community event designed to give working baristas a fun event to attend,” said Steve Maloney, founder of The Barista League. “Now, 10 years later, we have companies and baristas who travel from all over the world to be a part of the event, and we want to focus on bringing together all those coffee professionals who care about creating a better industry.”
Sponsors for The Barista League’s 2025 season include Rancilio, Oatly, Toddy, Pacific Foods, Puqpress, Acaia, ACME, Hollander, Supergood, Sweetbird, 1883, Barista Magazine, and Standart.
