DiFluid, a Chinese coffee equipment and technology firm, is introducing a low – temperature electronic afterburner named the AirWave Smart Roasting Purifier, tailored for small – scale roasters.
Unveiled to the public on March 30, 2025, at the Shanghai Coffee Expo, the AirWave focuses on energy efficiency, purification capabilities, and a compact countertop design. It is engineered to be used in conjunction with roasters having a capacity of 1 – kilo or less.
Measuring 11.4 inches in width, 7.1 inches in depth, and 12.5 inches in height, the new machine’s purification system is built around monolithic catalytic technology. This involves relatively small flow – through substrates that break down volatile organic compounds like aldehydes and benzene at low temperatures. DiFluid claims that this results in a reduction of smoke and harmful airborne contaminants by over 95%.
Cheryl Chen, DiFluid’s Marketing Specialist informed, “Our smoke purifier utilizes this revolutionary technology, replacing traditional triple – catalytic systems to substantially decrease size, cost, and temperature requirements. It effectively eliminates particulate matter (PM) and volatile organic compounds (VOC), while also intelligently collecting chaff and coffee dust, enhancing both environmental sustainability and the user experience. Additionally, the catalysts are fully recyclable.”
Users have the option to adjust the AirWave’s energy consumption. They can manually control airflow and power in real – time, depending on the roasting process. The machine also features an automatic mode. In this mode, a function called OmniVision monitors air quality and feeds data to algorithms that automatically adapt the system as the roast progresses.
The AirWave can operate continuously for consecutive roasts. It also has a self – cleaning mode that automatically cleans both the catalysts and the internal heater. Moreover, the device comes with its own chaff collection module.
According to the company, the metal body of the device is industrially recyclable, as are its reusable and replaceable catalysts. These catalysts are designed to be an improvement over the shorter – lived disposable filters commonly found in other small – scale smoke mitigation systems.
DiFluid was founded by Linus Peng in 2021 in Shenzhen, China. Its mission is to “digitize fluid” in the coffee preparation process using a variety of high – tech brewing and analysis tools.
Over the past two years, this vision has expanded from fluids to solids. Products such as the Omni analyzer, which measures roast color and ground coffee particle size, and the Omix, which collects a wide range of data from both green and roasted coffees, including water activity, moisture, density, screen size, expansion rate, etc., have been launched.
The AirWave marks a significant step forward for DiFluid in the roasting domain and is the company’s first tool focused solely on production. Chen stated that the AirWave will soon be followed by a device that can detect the first crack and simultaneously track the real – time color change of coffee during roasting.
Although the pricing of the AirWave has not been announced yet, Chen said that sales in the United States will start this month.
