Stone Creek Coffee has introduced a new line of single-use coffee pods called “Escape Pods,” combining convenience with environmental sustainability. The Milwaukee-based roaster announced the launch on Earth Day, highlighting the pods’ rich flavor and eco-conscious design.
The new pods are compatible with Keurig machines and are available in three of Stone Creek’s popular blends: Boneshaker (light roast), Cream City (medium roast), and 3 Volcanoes (dark roast). Each pod contains 70% more coffee than standard single-serve options, aiming to deliver a stronger and more satisfying brew.
What sets Escape Pods apart is their fully compostable shell. Made from plant-based materials, the pods are designed to break down completely at industrial composting facilities. This feature offers a more sustainable alternative to traditional plastic-based coffee pods, which often contribute to landfill waste.
“Escape Pods are fast, but they’re intentional. Efficient, but proud,” said Drew Pond, co-owner and director of development at Stone Creek Coffee. “Escape Pods are real coffee for real life.”
Each box of Escape Pods contains 12 pods and retails for $25. They can be purchased online or at any of Stone Creek’s nine locations throughout the Milwaukee area.
Stone Creek joins a growing number of coffee companies entering the single-serve pod market. Keurig first introduced its K-Cups in the late 1990s, a format that quickly gained popularity in homes and offices. Major brands such as Starbucks, Dunkin’, and Folgers have since developed their own versions.
Last October, another Milwaukee-based company, Anodyne Coffee Roasting Co., also released its own line of single-serve pods. Anodyne’s pods contain 40% more coffee than typical pods and are recyclable. The launch followed the company’s 2023 acquisition by the FairWave Specialty Coffee Collective.
As consumers continue to look for more sustainable and convenient ways to enjoy their coffee, companies like Stone Creek and Anodyne are responding with innovative solutions that deliver on both taste and responsibility.
