Pret has just announced its summer menu for 2025, introducing two bold new flavours: the Ube Brûlée iced latte and the Spirulina Macaron iced latte. If these names sound unfamiliar, here’s what you need to know.
This is the first time a high street coffee chain has added such unusual but exciting flavours inspired by the wellness trend. Both ube (a purple yam) and spirulina are popular on social media right now.
Along with these new drinks, Pret is also bringing back its fan-favorite Iced Matcha Latte with a big upgrade. They now use ceremonial grade matcha for a smoother, purer taste.
The Ube Brûlée Iced Latte is described as a refreshing drink with subtly sweet, nutty flavours from the purple yam. It’s blended with caramel syrup and Pret’s organic espresso, then served with milk over ice.
For those unfamiliar, ube is a purple yam common in Filipino cuisine. It has a texture like sweet potato and a gentle sweetness with hints of vanilla. Its bright purple color makes it eye-catching too.
Mel, a senior food and drinks writer, tried both new drinks and shared her thoughts. About the Ube Brûlée, she said: “It definitely has the caramelized sugar taste you expect from a brûlée, but the ube flavour gets lost under the strong coffee and syrup. It’s delicious, but I didn’t really taste the ube.”
The Spirulina Macaron Iced Latte mixes blue spirulina with sweet macaron syrup, organic espresso, milk, and ice, creating a bold drink with a striking blue color.
Mel’s take: “This one is my favourite. It has a lovely coconut and nutty taste that balances nicely with the earthy spirulina flavour. It’s punchier and stands up well to the coffee.”
Pret’s new flavours are a fresh and adventurous addition to their summer lineup, blending unique ingredients with familiar coffee goodness.
