Peaberry Coffee, a well-loved café in Oak Cliff, is leaving its original location in Kiestwood Village. Owner Elijah Salazar has announced that the shop will reopen inside Centro Church, just a few minutes away at 3822 W. Kiest Blvd.
The move comes after weeks of speculation, as neighbors noticed the café had been closed and a “for lease” sign appeared in its window. Salazar explained that persistent building issues forced the decision. The air conditioning system failed repeatedly, leaving indoor temperatures above 90 degrees. On top of that, the shop experienced two break-ins in just three months.
“We looked into replacing the AC, but soon realized the problems went deeper,” Salazar said. “The building is old, full of leaks and cracks, and has been slowly sinking into the creek behind it for years.”
Since opening in 2019, Peaberry has been a staple of the Oak Cliff community. A second location in Elmwood opened briefly in 2023 but closed after five months.
The new location inside Centro Church will include a renovated co-working space and access to a shared kitchen. The church and its in-house daycare will continue to operate as usual.
Salazar says paperwork for the move is being finalized. However, some employees remain uncertain about the transition and the future of the business.
