The Charlotte market has become a hotspot for specialty coffee, with a mix of local, boutique, and national coffee brands all vying for a share of the $68.5 billion U.S. coffee market.
Homegrown brands like Summit Coffee and Waterbean Coffee have been actively expanding in recent years, while Hex Coffee Roasters introduced its offshoot brand, Fly Kid Fly, at The Bowl at Ballantyne. Clutch Coffee Bar, known for its drive-thru locations, is also working on new spots across the Carolinas.
The Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters is set to build a $7 million facility in South End, which will significantly expand its roasting capabilities, add a larger kitchen, and introduce a second full-service shop. Meanwhile, national coffee chains like Caribou Coffee are returning to the Charlotte area, and Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has signed a deal to open three locations, with the first expected to debut in Rock Hill.
