The first 3D-printed Starbucks in the United States is opening tomorrow in Brownsville, Texas. The new store, built with concrete using a Cobod BOD2 3D printer, will offer both drive-through and mobile order pickup services.
The building was created by Germany-based Peri 3D Construction, with the project starting in late 2024. Unlike traditional 3D printers that use plastic, the Peri BOD2 machine prints with a concrete-like material. This technology works on a much larger scale, using a robotic system to build full structures.
The Brownsville Starbucks will be relatively small, with a 1,400-square-foot footprint. It will only have space for a mobile order pickup counter and a drive-through lane. There will be no indoor seating, and signage suggests there will be no option for walk-in orders.
The launch highlights a growing trend of using 3D printing in construction, bringing faster and more efficient building methods to commercial projects.
