A new chapter has begun at 619 Main Street in Groveport, where Main Ground Coffee has officially opened its doors. The coffee shop offers handcrafted drinks in a space steeped in nearly 60 years of family history.
Owner Avery Ward launched the café in a building that once housed his family’s beloved restaurant, Little Italy, for more than 45 years. Before that, it was his grandfather’s grocery store, established in 1966.
“These truly are our main grounds — our stomping grounds,” Ward said. “We wanted to breathe new life into this space while honoring its legacy. Now, instead of groceries or pizza, we serve connection and community through coffee.”
Ward is no stranger to revitalizing family businesses. As CEO of Little Italy Ristorante, he relocated and updated the restaurant at 480 Main Street, just across from the original location. His efforts earned the restaurant the title of Best Restaurant in Central Ohio in 2023, awarded by the Ohio Restaurant & Hospitality Alliance.
Now, Ward is building on that legacy by pairing his passion for service with award-winning coffee from Columbus-based Crimson Cup Coffee & Tea. The result is a welcoming new destination rooted in history, hospitality, and quality.
Main Ground Coffee reflects Ward’s continued mission to serve the Groveport community — one meaningful cup at a time.
