Shearwater Coffee Bar in Fairfield is closing its doors after eight years of operation, owner Ed Freedman announced on Friday. The coffee bar, located at 1215 Post Road in the Brick Walk Promenade, opened in 2017 and has been known for serving organic coffee, espresso, cold brew, nitro coffee, teas, and desserts.
Freedman, who also owns Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters in Trumbull, shared the news on social media, explaining that the closure is due to a personal health challenge within the family. Freedman’s wife, Wanda, was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer a year ago, and as her health has declined, the Freedman family has made the difficult decision to close the coffee bar.
The family’s post reads, “The demands of running a seven-day-a-week retail location have become impossible to balance with the care and support Wanda needs, leading us to the difficult decision to close our Brick Walk location.”
