The Mount Sequoyah Center is moving forward with plans to open a coffee shop within its Ozark building, located behind the iconic Parker Hall. The center has issued a request for proposals (RFP) this month, seeking a local operator to manage the cafe. Proposals are due by May 30.
The envisioned coffee shop will serve as a community-focused hub, offering coffee, tea, light snacks, and potentially beer and wine, pending proper permits. The chosen operator will be responsible for designing the space, managing day-to-day operations, and aligning with the center’s mission of fostering connections through recreation, nature, and the arts.
The idea for a coffee shop at Mount Sequoyah has been in the works since at least 2023 when the City Council approved a rezoning request to permit third-party commercial use in the Ozark building, which had previously been zoned for institutional purposes only. Emily Gentry, president of the Mount Sequoyah Center, stated that the goal is to create a welcoming, public-facing space for both residents and visitors to enjoy.
The project is seen as an exciting step in enhancing the community offerings at the center and supporting the mission of connecting people through various cultural and recreational experiences.
