Ethiopia earned a record $1.868 billion from coffee exports over the past 10 months, the highest revenue the country has ever achieved in that time frame, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) announced Wednesday.
From July 8, 2024—the start of Ethiopia’s 2024/2025 fiscal year—through mid-May, the East African nation exported 354,302 tonnes of coffee to international markets, according to a statement from ECTA shared with Xinhua.
This performance represents a 70% increase in export volume and an 87% rise in revenue compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, said Adugna Debela, Director-General of the ECTA.
Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the United States emerged as the top three importers of Ethiopian coffee during the period.
“This outstanding achievement is the outcome of a well-coordinated national effort,” Debela said. He expressed confidence that Ethiopia will continue its strong performance in the remaining two months of the fiscal year, further cementing its reputation as a global leader in premium coffee production.
