Lincoln welcomes its newest coffee café, East Avenue Café, with a heartfelt mission: “Serving the community one cup at a time.” This motto, created by co-owner Cindi Benzel, perfectly reflects the dedication she and her husband, Fred, bring to the business—and the neighborhood.
Cindi and Fred, who serve as co-pastors at the nearby GraceLife Church, transformed the former home at 701 East Avenue into a charming café over two years. The church owns the building, and the grand opening is set for Saturday, May 24.
Pastor Mark Shephard, with a background in the grocery industry, leads the café’s operations. During the soft opening, guests enjoyed an assortment of muffins, pastries, doughnuts, bagels, breakfast sausage and cheese buns, and quiche bites.
With the grand opening, the menu will expand to include a variety of sandwiches. For those missing authentic bagels, you’ll be pleased to know they’re now made fresh in Lincoln. Many pastries are lovingly baked by church members, adding a homegrown touch to every bite. The beverage menu features hot and cold teas, coffee, and lattes, and new this season—ice cream!
Festivities on May 24 will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Highlights include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a vintage car show, food trucks, live music, and a kids’ area—something for the whole family to enjoy.
The café will be open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., and weekends from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., ready to serve the community one cup at a time.
