Starbucks is piloting a new AI assistant called “Green Dot Assist” at select stores to help baristas work faster and improve customer service.
Powered by Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI platform, the AI provides quick, real-time answers to common questions—like how to prepare certain drinks or troubleshoot equipment—directly on a tablet behind the counter.
Baristas can type or speak their queries in natural language, reducing the need to search manuals or internal resources.
Currently focused on basic operational support, Starbucks plans to expand the AI’s capabilities to more complex tasks such as automatically creating IT support tickets or managing shift replacements, according to Chief Technology Officer Deb Hall Lefevre.
