A fresh blend of food, coffee, and community has arrived at the heart of downtown Indianapolis. On June 9, T Street Eatz officially opened a new full-service café in the Atrium of Central Library at 40 E. St. Clair Street.
The café is a collaboration between the Indianapolis Public Library and T Street Eatz, a local business owned by longtime friends Tasha “Chef T” Claytor and LaMont “Monty” Reeves, Sr. Their mission is to serve a wide range of customers—from library staff and students to downtown professionals and travelers—with a menu featuring freshly brewed coffee, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, and grab-and-go lunch options.
“Bringing a café to Central Library has been a priority,” said Elizabeth Schoettle, director of Central Library. “T Street Eatz adds so much to our space, giving visitors the chance to enjoy coffee and warm food while taking advantage of our books, programs, and services.”
T Street Eatz began as a small pop-up in a shared kitchen during the pandemic, a time when cooking for friends and family became a source of comfort and purpose for Claytor and Reeves. They later operated a space inside City Market, but were forced to close when the market unexpectedly shut down.
“The effects of the pandemic and the loss of our storefront have continued to impact us,” Claytor said. “But we remained committed to our mission of serving the community with fresh, flavorful food and excellent service.”
The new café reflects that commitment. It offers a variety of breakfast and lunch options, including limited plant-based and gluten-free choices, aiming to ensure “there’s something for everyone.”
With its welcoming atmosphere and diverse menu, the T Street Eatz café is not only a new addition to the library—it’s a new chapter for a business built on resilience, flavor, and community.
