After closing their well-loved café in Lerwick last year, Terence Tsao and Emilu Hasegawa are bringing their unique Japanese-style coffee house to the southside of Glasgow. Showa Coffee House will officially open its doors at 34 Minard Road in Shawlands on Wednesday, June 18.
The couple, who moved from Shetland to be closer to family, have spent the past several months redesigning the space to suit their vision for the new Showa. Known for its distinctive Japanese-inspired menu and cozy atmosphere, the original Showa was the only Japanese café on Shetland.
“Showa is named after a period in Japan,” Tsao previously told. “Our goal was to bring a special bakery experience to Shetland. The community there welcomed us warmly, and we’re proud to have shared that with them.”
Now, they hope to recreate that charm in Shawlands. The new café will serve specialty coffee, Japanese sweets like Mount Fuji cakes, and creative items such as onigiri croissants.
With a fresh start in Glasgow, Showa Coffee House aims to become a go-to neighborhood spot for both coffee lovers and fans of Japanese cuisine.
