A new addition to Steinway Street in Astoria is brewing more than just coffee—it’s cultivating a sophisticated, alcohol-free gathering spot deeply connected to Yemeni culture.
Haraz Coffee House, at 25-43 Steinway St., opened in March and quickly gained attention for its upscale design, authentic Yemeni coffee, and inviting atmosphere. Nestled in the heart of Little Egypt—a lively Astoria neighborhood known for its Middle Eastern businesses—Haraz offers a unique space for locals and visitors alike.
Owner Ahmed Moustafa, who also opened Haraz’s SoHo location, explained that the Astoria café was created with the neighborhood’s diverse youth in mind, especially those seeking a social space free from alcohol and hookah.
“The reason I got into this business, and specifically this franchise, is for the youth who don’t drink or smoke hookah,” said Moustafa. “They need a place to connect, study, and hang out; so it’s not just about the coffee, it’s a gathering place in the community.”
Open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until 1 a.m. on weekends, Haraz Coffee House offers a cozy yet modern environment perfect for studying, remote work, or socializing. Its interior artfully blends contemporary design with Middle Eastern architectural touches, reflecting its cultural heritage while maintaining a sleek, inviting vibe.
