June is known as Pride Month, a time to celebrate inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community. But for one queer-owned business in Downtown Greenville, this mission goes far beyond a single month.
Backstage Coffee, owned by Anna and Mackenzie Park, has become a local favorite—and a safe space—for the LGBTQ+ community. The café, which is known for its themed monthly menus and warm atmosphere, is placing extra emphasis on Pride this June.
“It’s not really a space that’s offered anywhere else around here,” said co-owner Anna Park. “There have been similar spaces in the past that people really connected with. I don’t think we understood just how big the queer community is here.”
Her wife and co-owner Mackenzie Park added, “This space makes people feel accepted and safe, no matter what. Watching that happen has been really special for us.”
For Pride Month, Backstage Coffee has launched a special menu, which includes the return of their popular Fruity Pebble Latte. They’ll also host a vintage-themed event on Saturday, June 14.
With its welcoming vibe and strong community support, Backstage Coffee continues to be a place where everyone—regardless of identity—can feel at home.
