Iberia has announced a new partnership with Italian coffee brand illycaffè, naming it the airline’s official coffee provider for both inflight service and airport lounges.
Starting this month, Iberia is serving illy’s 100% Arabica blend in all its long-haul cabins, as well as in its VIP lounges. This move brings a taste of Italy’s coffee culture to passengers at 30,000 feet.
The partnership comes as illycaffè continues to grow its presence in the aviation sector. Earlier this year, the company became the official coffee supplier for ITA Airways. Last year, it also launched its ready-to-drink Cold Brew cans on many United Airlines flights over 300 miles.
Iberia’s move follows a similar update from its IAG group partner, British Airways, which recently introduced Birchall as its new global tea provider.
Iberia began offering illy coffee on long-haul flights in May. Club Europe passengers will experience the change in June, and starting in July, Euro Traveller customers will be able to purchase Birchall teas through the airline’s High Life Café.
Cristina Scocchia, CEO of illycaffè, welcomed the collaboration.
“The partnership with Iberia is an important milestone for us, offering the millions of travellers who fly with the airline each year the experience of superior, sustainable coffee,” she said.
“With a tradition spanning over 90 years, illycaffè is a symbol of Italian coffee culture, and through this collaboration, we hope to share our passion with an ever-growing audience.”
She added, “Being present onboard long-haul flights and in Iberia’s prestigious lounges represents an extraordinary opportunity to elevate the coffee experience in the air and in stylish travel settings.”
