On June 7 and 8, the historic “Old Prison Dormitory Group” in Chiayi City will come alive with the vibrant atmosphere of the 2025 Chiayi Coffee Festival. Centered around the theme of “Wood City” and “Forest Sunbathing,” the festival offers a special market, live music performances, DIY handmade workshops, and a rich blend of cultural and lifestyle experiences infused with the fragrances of wood and coffee.
Chiayi Mayor Huang Min-hui highlighted the city’s deep-rooted coffee history dating back to 1981, when the Japanese established the Chiayi Branch of the Horticultural Experimental Station in Hongmaoping for coffee cultivation. Today, Chiayi boasts the second-highest density of coffee shops in Taiwan.
The festival aims to serve as a vital platform connecting the coffee production region with consumers, driving local tourism and showcasing the creativity and vitality of local youth. This year’s event features participation from 51 brands, including historic favorites like Mushang Coffee, modern urban shops such as Black and White Gold Coffee Tea House, and Alishan Manor’s elite coffee competition winners like Qingye Coffee Manor and Zhuo Wushan Coffee Farm.
Supporting the festival is the iconic Italian Victoria Arduino Black Hawk Maverick Million Coffee Machine, provided by popular dessert vendors Chang Chang, OA Keri, and Bai Mao International.
Spanning the entire coffee industry chain—from production and processing to service and cultural marketing—the Chiayi Coffee Festival exemplifies local industry integration and innovation. For visitors, it is an exceptional opportunity to savor diverse coffee flavors and experience Chiayi’s rich coffee culture and heritage firsthand.
