A delegation of 10 coffee buyers from the United Kingdom recently completed a successful visit to 19 coffee businesses and producers across five provinces in Papua New Guinea.
The visit was organized through the UK Trade Partnership Program (UKTP), supported by the British High Commission, and coordinated by the Coffee Industry Corporation (CIC).
From May 24 to 30, the group toured exporters, coffee mills, plantations, farmers, and freight forwarders. The purpose was to learn about the industry’s structure, farming methods, production levels, processing techniques, and export logistics.
The trip began in Mt. Hagen, Western Highlands, and continued through Jiwaka, Chimbu, Eastern Highlands, before concluding in Lae, Morobe.
British High Commissioner Anne Macro accompanied the UK buyers from Goroka to Lae.
“We are very pleased to have a large delegation visiting the PNG coffee industry. Some have already bought coffee from PNG, while others are new buyers,” Macro said. “ITC is a trade program. We fund ITC to work with several sectors, including coffee, cocoa, and other specialty food products.”
