Southbourne’s newest coffee shop officially opened its doors this week, aiming to become a welcoming space for the entire community.
Almo’s Coffee Shop began serving customers on Wednesday, June 4. Owner Alex Shard says she wants the café to be a place where everyone feels at home.
“It’s something for everyone,” Alex said. “Every age could come here and feel welcome.”
Alex chose to open her business on Broadway in Southbourne because of her strong ties to the area. Her parents have owned the neighboring Post Office for nearly 30 years, and she spent close to two decades working there on and off.
When she heard the empty shop next to the Post Office was available, she jumped at the opportunity — even though she had no previous experience running a café.
“I just thought one night, ‘I’m going to open a café,’” she said.
