Uganda’s Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has reported a major increase in coffee exports for April 2025, both in volume and value.
Uganda exported 694,318 60-kilogram bags of coffee during the month. This marks a 77.44% increase compared to April 2024. The exports earned the country US$214.38 million, a sharp 152.56% rise in revenue year-over-year.
The boost in coffee output was largely driven by strong harvests in key regions. “The monthly coffee export volume was higher than the previous year on account of good crop from the main harvest in Masaka and south Western regions,” the report said.
High global coffee prices also played a major role. Ongoing dry weather in Brazil and Vietnam—leading producers of Arabica and Robusta coffee—has created uncertainty in the global market, pushing prices higher.
Robusta coffee was the main contributor to the export surge. Uganda’s Robusta exports jumped by 104.63% in volume and 187.61% in value compared to the same period last year. In contrast, Arabica exports fell slightly by 0.8%.
April’s numbers continue a strong year for Uganda’s coffee industry. The highest monthly export volume over the past 12 months was in August 2024, when 835,681 bags were shipped.
Between May 2024 and April 2025, Uganda exported 7.17 million bags of coffee, valued at US$1.97 billion. That’s up from 5.90 million bags worth US$1.01 billion over the previous 12-month period.
The average price for Ugandan coffee in April 2025 was US$5.15 per kilogram. The top 10 exporting companies handled 68.43% of the total volume, out of 75 companies involved in coffee exports.
