Umar Patek, the man who built the bombs that killed hundreds in the 2002 Bali Bombings, has opened a new coffee shop. He is now using his violent past to promote this business.
Patek was the bomb-maker behind the attack that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. Last night, he launched his coffee shop in East Java, funded by a high-end Indonesian restaurant.
His marketing slogan reads: “Once I concocted bombs, and now I concoct coffee.” He says he now “brews peace.”
However, survivors of the Bali Bombings have strongly condemned Patek’s new venture.
Phil Britten, a survivor who was in Bali to celebrate a sports victory, called Patek’s actions “disgusting and despicable.”
Britten said, “This man was released early from prison because he showed remorse. But what he is doing now shows he has no remorse at all.”
